Holiday at Margate

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 14 February 2007

We’re not officially retired from our holiday yet but we shall provide you with a short update before we move on to the Kalahari for the last leg of our holiday.

 Margate

Needless to say our holiday at Margate was simply superb filled with lots of sunshine and laughter not to mention body boarding, et cetera. While we’re not experts on body boarding and all of that we shall share our experiences…

Imagine spinning around in a washing machine filled with salt water…

The waves reminded us of the fact that inner strength is most of the time not defined by looks. We faced the onslaught of several waves big and small and can affirm that looks can be deceiving…. there were big waves that proved to be mild and meek in comparison to the strength of some of the small ones.

The lesson: Never under estimate the strength of the little ones.

 Margate

Needless to say the weather can get hot and humid in Margate… :-)

Trane for one saved us from the recent heat wave or what felt like a heat wave anyway. Not saved by tears (trane = tears in Afrikaans) where one is drenched with liquid flowing from the eyes but Trane air-conditioners. It’s unbelievable how even the rusty ones seemed to handle the weather quite well… much better than most of us can say about our handling of adverse weather conditions.

Flies and mosquitoes are definitely part of God’s creation although they can be down right annoying some times…

We’ve found a near perfect solution to this problem at one of Margate’s shops. Its called a Bug-Zapper. We’re not sure how many of you have seen it but it looks like a standard tennis racket or bat. It can deliver an instant high-voltage between 3000v and 4200v to any flying object the size of a blowfly and smaller. Even moths bigger than blowflies have met their doom.

Unlike to what Telkom  has to offer these Bug-Zappers are not expensive (R35-R45) and can get the job done. Although in the translation department we shall award Telkom a higher mark…

‘Major Features’

  • Shock-free:  The bat gives fatal shocks to mosquitoes stinging on skin but it is safe to human body. There is no shocking to hands while touching the bat net, both sage and practical.
  • Et cetera.

‘Usage Instruction’

  • To use this bat to kill mosquito of fly, simply press the electric shock button.
  • To use the bat in the dark, switch on the illuminating lamp to find and kill mosquito quickly.
  • If the battery is running out and causes weak discharge of the bat, the indicator for electric shock will to off, indicating that the bat needs to charge up.
  • To charge up the battery, switch on the illuminating lamp, plug it to the power receptacle and the indicator for charge will light, indicating the bat is charging up. When the power is off, the illuminating lamp will light automatically.

‘Attention’

  • Please charge for 8 hour before using for the first time.
  • Et cetera.

It is clear from an inscription on the Bug-Zapper itself that it’s also ‘CHAPGEABLE.’ None the less we can affirm that these Bug-Zappers get the job done without having to move mountains.

Margate

To move further a field…

Seafood lovers will find the Lobster Pot in Margate delightful to say the least. At less than a 100 bucks their Seaman’s Platter is really worth every cent or five cents for that matter. It’s perfectly safe to take your whole family there taking into consideration that you’re not a lobster or flatfish for that matter.

Believe it or not, we also found a good companion in Woolworth’s Cheese Selection. At 37 bucks with a ‘free’ white stilton with blue berries imported from England it was really nothing short of spectacular.

If you fancy bowling, shooting at Pink Panthers, et cetera we recommend you get down to the Margate Cinema.

 Margate

Well, that’s all we’re going to make public about our holiday at Margate :-)
