Google SA in broadband push

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 26 November 2007

Google South Africa (Google SA) is planning a big broadband drive for 2008. This will tie in nicely with their official launch February next year.

Stafford Masie, Country Manager for Google SA, recently made it clear at the ‘Get to know Google’ event in Bryanston ‘…that he will engage with all role-players, including Government, to emphasize the importance of broadband to grow the economy’ (Google SA plans big broadband drive, MyBroadband, 20 November 2007).

In other words, Google SA sees the growth of broadband as key to economic growth in South Africa.

Masie made it clear that ‘…he will leverage the strong Google brand to engage with people like the Minister of Communications and participate at cabinet level to clearly show the economic and social benefits of pervasive broadband’ (Google SA plans big broadband drive, MyBroadband, 20 November 2007).

In other words, Google is even willing to sit down with the ‘queen of screw ups’ herself, Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri, in order to see some progress.
