Forced ADSL line rental

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 5 November 2007

TrueTrue competition might have to take a back seat again if Telkom persists in forcing subscribers to ‘…purchase an analogue telephone service with any ADSL product’ (Forced ADSL line rental anti-competitive?, MyBroadband, 31 October 2007).

‘The legalization of VoIP and the increased uptake of ADSL have presented ISPs with great opportunities to offer their clients voice services that compete against Telkom’s offering. Larger ISPs like Vox Telecom and MWEB have already launched a fully fledged voice service where subscribers can make and receive calls on their own 087 number’ (Forced ADSL line rental anti-competitive?, MyBroadband, 31 October 2007).

In other words, the legalization of VoIP and immense growth in the uptake of ADSL Broadband have cleared the road for alternative voice service providers to compete against Telkom.
