Faster ADSL by 2011
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South
Africa), 19 November 2007
Telkom is planning to bring us faster ADSL Broadband after the 2010 Soccer World Cup. They
are planning to increase the speed of their ADSL Broadband service from 4Mbps to 10Mbps, that’s 10 times faster
than iBurst’s current ‘advertised’ speed.
Telkom’s acting CEO, Reuben September, announced their plans to
increase ADSL Broadband peak speeds at the company’s interim results presentation.
‘The company is further planning to achieve a 15-20% ADSL
penetration rate of fixed access lines by 2011. Telkom announced that it has already increased its ADSL footprint
to 2 501 DSLAMs and added that there was a 76.2% growth in ADSL subscriptions from Sept 2006 to Sept 2007’ (10 Mbps
ADSL by 2011, MyBroadband, 19 November 2007).
In other words, it’s clear that Telkom is aiming to increase more
than just the speed of their ADSL service.
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) welcomes Telkom’s plans
to bring us better and faster ADSL Broadband.
