Factors to consider when getting ADSL Broadband
In this section of ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa)
our focus will be on the factors you need to consider when getting ADSL Broadband or when you decide to
subscribe to an ADSL Broadband Internet access service.
ADSL Broadband is a great way of accessing the Internet, but if you fail
to choose the right ADSL Broadband service for you as an individual, chances are good that you will be
left frustrated and with a huge hole in your pocket. We are therefore aiming in this section of ADSL South
Africa (Broadband South Africa) to help you choose the ADSL Broadband service which caters to
your individual needs.
A list of factors to consider when getting ADSL
Broadband:
-
Availability of ADSL
Broadband in a specific area: This is the most important factor to
consider when getting ADSL Broadband, because if the telephone exchange in your are is not ADSL or
DSL enabled or doesn't support ADSL Broadband, you will not be able to get ADSL Broadband until the
situation changes. Be sure to check out whether ADSL Broadband is available in your area by
visiting the relevant section of ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa). Click here
-
Cost of the ADSL
Broadband Service: This is probably the second most important factor to consider when
getting ADSL Broadband.
We know that most of the Average Joes
in South Africa have tight budgets or can't afford to over pay for products and services, especially when
it's for products and services which can be described as 'non-essential' in the true meaning of the word. In
the true meaning of the word because although we at ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) deem ADSL
Broadband as an 'essential service', it's not a matter of life or death if you can't access the
Internet by making use of ADSL Broadband or any other broadband technology for that matter. It's
definitely more serious if you don't have stuff like water, heat, et cetera that cater to your basic
needs. This is why it's important not to over pay for ADSL Broadband when you are fortunate enough
to afford ADSL Broadband.

ADSL Line
Speed: You don't want to be stuck with a slow
ADSL line speed (192Kbps) when you need a higher ADSL line speed (4Mb+) for online gaming,
VoIP, et cetera. The faster you want to surf the Internet the higher the ADSL line speed need to be
and vice versa.

A "Cap" on an ADSL line is
simply a limit to how much memory one can download per month. It is usually measured in GB (gigabytes) and
once depleted, (Hard Cap) your ADSL internet connection stops working or (Soft Cap) you are switched to a
throttled service (slower connection) or have the option to buy additional
bandwidth.

Family Safe ADSL
Broadband: The Internet is fast
becoming a must have for education and information purposes, but it is also evident that it is
fast becoming the No.1 nightmare for parents in terms of parenting. The Internet in its current form poses huge risks to
children in various and hideous forms. Parenting is not
always easy, especially when it comes to keeping your children’s eyes away from porn and
malicious sites when they surf the Internet.

has started a section to arm parents with knowledge that will help to keep their children out of harms
way when it comes to surfing the Internet. Click here

ADSL Broadband Transmission
Material: It's probably not the most important aspect
to consider when getting ADSL Broadband, but choosing the 'transmission material' best suited for
the type of ADSL Broadband Internet access you want, might just be what's needed to give you that
extra performance and enjoyment. Click here

Do you want to deal directly or
indirectly with Telkom?: Whether you want to deal directly with Telkom or not
is another factor to consider when you are thinking of getting ADSL Broadband.
Dealing with Telkom is not always a nightmare, but if you have
like us experienced Telkom's customer service at its 'best', then you will most probably not want to
deal directly with them EVER again. Despite this, you do not want to miss out on the advantages of ADSL Broadband, especially if you can get connected without having to deal directly with
Telkom.
We do however give our fellow Average Joes the opportunity to
decide for themselves which way they want to go: Deal directly with Telkom (best of
luck) or never deal directly with Telkom again (yippee)!
For example, "Shaped ADSL
Broadband" is suitable when you read and receive email, browse the net and make normal downloads but
definitely not suitable if you want to use your Internet connection for online
gaming, peer to peer file
sharing, VoIP , et cetera.
