One can only hope that the MTN Group, the largest operator investor in EASSy, will not allow Telkom to call all the shots. However, to be brutally honest, we're more worried about MTN than Telkom at this stage. Yes, believe it or not, but MTN's service levels has dropped to unacceptable low levels, especially if one considers that for every compliment they've received at hellopeter.com over the last 12 months, there were on average 19 complaints while Telkom only received 7 complaints for every compliment!

When will EASSy be commercially active or commercially launched?

EASSy is expected to launch commercially in August this year.

EASSy is too late to be launched in time for the 2010 Soccer World Cup of course, but none the less it’s expected to be commercially viable in August this year, which is only about 6 months away.

In other words, EASSy’s commercial launch is expected in August this year, and although not in time for the 2010 Soccer World Cup, it will most certainly not be a train smash, except if maintenance on the SAT3 cable causes extensive disruptions again.

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) welcomes the landing of EASSy in South Africa and trust that the parties concerned will deploy EASSy to the benefit of all broadband Internet users in South Africa.
