Don't lock yourself in
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South
Africa), 29 March 2009
This is not the time to lock
yourself into long-term contracts. All the signs are there that the cost of bandwidth is going to come down
considerably when the SEACOM undersea cable goes live later this
year.
An avalanche of ‘special offerings’…
You can expect to see an
avalanche of ‘special offerings’ relating to ADSL (and other broadband alternatives) coming your way before Seacom goes live by the
second half of the year. ISPs (Internet Service Providers) will try their best to lock you into contracts
ranging from 12 to 36 months. They will do this in order to make more profit out of you when the cost of
providing broadband Internet access comes down later this year. They will come to the table with offers that
seem amazing, but don’t be fooled; most of these offers will only be remotely amazing when compared to the
current telecoms regime earmarked by high broadband prices, et cetera.
