do Broadband ADSL
offerings
ADSL
South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 24 April
2007
Telkom’s recently introduced do Broadband
ADSL offerings will help TelkomInternet customers to save cents
on the Rand but competing Internet Service Providers (ISPs)
will suck on the back teat.
What’s do
Broadband?
According to the Telkom do
Broadband website it ‘…combines DSL access and Internet usage
at monthly fixed discounted rate you therefore no longer have
to subscribe to two separate services to access the net.’ Also,
‘it is also designed for customers who crave speedy Internet
bundled with a basket of value added services.’
In other words, do Broadband aims
to bring convenience, savings and value added services to
TelkomInternet customers by combining all three components of
the ADSL or DSL service into one account in terms of
payment.
How big are the
savings?
12%-18% when compared to prices
of separate
components.
‘Telkom has introduced
three basic DoBroadband ADSL offerings: a DSL384 service with a
1GB usage limit for R 279-00, a DSL384 offering with a 2 GB cap
for R 364-00 and a DSL 4 Mbps product with a 3 GB cap for R
675-00. These new combined prices represent savings of 18% on
the DSL384-2GB service (if compared to the price of separate
components) and a 12% saving for their combined DSL 4Mbps-3GB
product’ (Telkom’s combined-rate ADSL offerings bring lower
prices, MyADSL, 22 April 2007).
In other words, if you prefer
TelkomInternet as your ISP savings of up to 18% is
possible.
Are the do Broadband
products available as part of Telkom Closer
packages?
Yes, as part of some Telkom
Closer packages.
‘The three DoBroadband products
are also available as part of some Telkom Closer packages which
bring additional savings on call costs. The three Closer
packages are priced at R 578-00, R 657-00 and R 936-00. With
the standard Telkom Closer 3 plan retailing at R 300-00 per
month, the effective in-bundle rate for the new broadband
bolt-on services are effectively R 278-00, R 357-00 and R
636-00’ (Telkom’s combined-rate ADSL offerings bring lower
prices, MyADSL, 22 April 2007).
In other words,
additional savings on calls are
possible.
