DA clashes with Telkom
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 7 October
2007
The DA or Democratic Alliance has clashed with
Telkom over Telkom’s alleged failure to fix a fault in the DA’s
broadband connection within an acceptable time frame. An allegation Telkom denies.
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) has no great love for politicians or
Telkom that’s why we find it entertaining that the DA and Telkom are now at loggerheads over a couple of hours.
This remind us of a Sterkinekor poster, like in a sign posted, that stated before June the 2 elections in
1999: We will be open on the 2 of June. Like our politicians we like to
entertain you on a daily basis.
‘The Democratic Alliance (DA) claims it waited over 26 hours for Telkom to fix a
fault in its broadband connection. However, the telecommunications giant says it was fixed in 24 hours and 45
minutes’ (Telkom denies DA’s claims, Doyle, ITWEB Portals Editor, 5 October 2007).
In other words, they are now fighting over a couple of hours instead of over more
pressing issues like ADSL line orders ‘…pending which have been waiting for over 100 hours’ (ADSL ISPS suffer at
hands of Telkom, MyBroadband, 25 September 2007).
How did Telkom respond?
Denial.
According to Lulu Letlape, Group Executive for Corporate Communications at
Telkom: “Telkom always endeavours to restore interrupted
services as expeditiously as possible” (Telkom denies DA’s claims, Doyle, ITWEB Portals Editor, 5 October 2007).
Also: “The fault was reported on 3 October and cleared on 4 October,” (Telkom denies DA’s claims, Doyle, ITWEB
Portals Editor, 5 October 2007).
In other words, according to Telkom they are not to be blamed because they are always
doing their best to restore interrupted services as fast as
possible.
