Communications Minister: Nyanda should
resign
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South
Africa), 16 August 2010
SA Communications Minister, General Siphiwe
Nyanda, should do the honourable thing and resign. This comes after news of his involvement in yet another
tender scandal where he has allegedly enriched himself at a great cost to the
taxpayer.
R20 million to investigate service
delivery protests in Mpumalanga…
The latest
tender scandal involving Nyanda is about the alleged awarding of a R20 million contract to Abalozi Security Risk
Advisory Services, formerly known as General Nyanda Security Risk Advisory Services and GNS Risk Advisory
Services, without following tender rules. Nyanda’s children have a 45% stake in the mentioned company via the
Mphephethwa Trust.
Never mind
the tender process which was followed to award the R20 million contract to Abalozi Security Risk Advisory
Services, the fact that R20 million is needed to investigate service delivery protests is shocking in its own
right. We all know that the majority of service delivery protests are a direct result of people being fed-up
with poor and non-existent service delivery. Paying someone to investigate service delivery protests is not only
a total waste of taxpayers’ money, but a sure sign of a witch hunt against political opponents which is totally
unacceptable in a ‘democratic society’. In this instance it was nothing but a witch hunt against the political
opponents of Mpumalanga premier, David Mabuza. Instead of using the money to improve service delivery, they are
wasting money on an investigation that not only enables them to enrich themselves at a cost to the taxpayer, but
to identify and act against political opponents.
In other
words, without following tender rules, a company in which Nyanda indirectly holds a 45% stake has being
awarded a R20 million contract to investigate service delivery protests in Mpumalanga.
