A Communications Minister can make or break,
not only the telecoms sector of a country, but the country as a whole. The reason for this is simply because
affordable and effective telecommunications are of vital importance in most economies, and most economies if not
all, are of vital importance to the success of the under-lying countries.
A Communications Minister has a huge role to
play when it comes to the steering of a telecoms sector in a certain direction. Fishing for votes by means of
free handouts for example should not form part of his/her role nor duties since it comes at a cost to the
economy (and the taxpayers of a country). He/she must for one rather focus on lowering the barriers to enter the
telecoms sector. This should help to lower the cost of telecommunications due to increased
competition.
