Chinese money backs bid for Telkom
Media
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South
Africa), 2 November 2008
It doesn’t come as a surprise that Chinese money is backing a
local consortium that wants to buy a huge chunk of Telkom’s holding in Telkom Media. It is no secret that the
Chinese have been eyeing Africa for some time
now.
Close to finalising a deal…
Word is out that Telkom is close to finalising a deal with a local
consortium, backed by Chinese money, which wants to buy a huge chunk of Telkom’s 66% shareholding in Telkom Media.
This comes after Telkom and players such as e.tv got cold feet and decided to place their satellite TV aspirations
on the back burner. This is despite the fact that both e.tv and Telkom Media have been rewarded pay-TV
licenses.
