Cell C meets job
target
ADSL
South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 19 April
2007
Cell C has succeeded in meeting its direct
job target by creating 2 500 direct jobs. According to them
‘…they currently have 2 634 employees, of which 89% are
categorized as previously disadvantaged’ (Cell C meets job
targets, but struggling to meet subscriber targets, MyADSL, 16
April
2007).
Where does this target come
from?
According to Cell C’s website their
‘…business plan envisages creating 2 500 direct and 15 000
indirect jobs within four to five years, encompassing
individuals from all previously disadvantaged
sectors.’
What about their indirect job
target?
At this stage it’s difficult at best to say
whether they have met this target or not.
What about recent media reports that
Cell C is about to shed 5% of their work
force?
This doesn’t seem to be the case at
all.
Cell C
responded: “There have been reports
quoting different numbers, however Cell C would like to clarify
that as at the end of March our total staff complement is over
2 600. Twenty-four positions have been affected in our
re-alignment process of which over 90% had the opportunity to
consider alternative roles within Cell C.”
Cell C
concluded: “This
number represents less than 1% of our entire staff
complement. As with any turn-around and realignment
process, certain roles will come under review which is
normal business practice” (Cell C meets job targets, but
struggling to meet subscriber targets, MyADSL, 16 April
2007).
In other words, only 24 people were affected
by job cuts at Cell C of which well over 20 had the opportunity
to stay on in different capacities.
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa)
would like to congratulate Cell C on a job well done. Best of
luck in reaching those subscriber targets as well, we know it’s
tough when you have to face the likes of Vodacom and
MTN.
