ADSL South Africa - Carrier
Pre-Selection
This section of ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) is
dedicated to the importance of Carrier Pre-Selection in the building of a consumer friendly telecoms
regime.
'Carrier preselect is a term relating to the
telecommunications industry. It is the process whereby a telephone subscriber whose telephone line is maintained by
one company, usually a former monopoly provider (e.g. BT), can choose to have some of their calls
automatically routed across a different telephone company's network (e.g. Talk Talk) without needing to enter a
special code or special equipment' (Wikipedia).
In other words, Carrier Pre-Selection gives
the telephone subscriber a choice when it comes to the automatic routing of calls across the telephone
networks of different telephone companies.
The idea with Carrier Pre-Selection from a
consumer's perspective is to save money by having one's calls routed via the cheapest telephone networks.
This essential in the building of a consumer friendly telecoms regime, not only because one saves
money in the process, but because one saves money that can be spend elsewhere (school fees, food,
etc.).
