Cable thief meets his maker
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 22
August 2007
A cable thief
recently lost his life in Pretoria when he tried to ‘cut’ Eskom cables by using a
hacksaw.
It’s no secret that cable theft costs
the South African economy millions of rand every year…
‘It is estimated that South Africa loses in the
order of R5-billion a year owing to cable theft that disrupts electricity, telecommunications and rail services.
The estimated direct cost of cable theft in South Africa is R500-million a year’ (Cable theft costs South Africa
billions a year, Helene Le Roux, 3 August 2007).
In other words, one can only imagine how many job opportunities are lost, how many
people go to bed hungry, et cetera
because of cable theft.
We hope the pictures on the following
page send a clear message to anyone thinking of ever becoming a cable thief.
