Broadband service in SA needs to
improve
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South
Africa), 7 January 2008
It is clear from the recent Broadband Survey done by MyBroadband that Internet Service Providers (ISPs) must take
steps to improve the performance of their broadband services or risk losing
subscribers.
It’s shameful at best to read
that a mere 13% of broadband subscribers in South Africa found their broadband service to be better than expected.
This is even the case when one takes all superstition connected to the figure 13 out of the equation. To make
matters worse only 46% of respondents felt that their service perform as expected while almost 40% (38%) of
respondents felt service performance was worse than expected. It’s therefore no wonder that more than a 1/3 of
subscribers (35%) are actively looking for a better or new broadband service elsewhere. This tell us that if
Neotel manages to
play its cards right, and launches an outstanding residential broadband service early this year as expected,
they might be able to win over a large percentage of those disgruntled subscribers. No, it’s not a matter of
playing the cards right but rather a matter of good old-fashioned service. It has nothing to with playing cards
or gambling for that matter. Poor service performance is a gamble, not the other way around.
