Broadband in SA growing

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 16 March 2008

It is clear that broadband in South Africa has been growing despite regulatory hurdles that have resulted in limited and expensive bandwidth and uncertainty.

Consulting firm, Frost & Sullivan, has made it clear in a report that the local broadband market has generated $195 million (more R1.5 billion) in 2006. This must come as good news to participants in the broadband market, providers and broadband users alike.

What is fueling growth in the broadband market?

Demand.

It seems that growth in the broadband market is fuelled by a strong demand for faster and better Internet connections as offered by broadband. More and more people are dropping slow dial-up for faster broadband Internet connections such as ADSL Broadband. Many of those who surf the net for the first time, don’t even bother with dial-up, but subscribe to a broadband service from the start.

In other words, growth in the broadband market is fueled by a strong demand for broadband services and products.
