A trickle of hope…

It must be said that it’s not all doom and gloom when it comes to the quality of broadband offered in SA. The quality of Mobile Broadband offered in SA compares well to the international download and upload thresholds of 1.3 Mbps, mainly due to the Mobile Broadband offered by MTN and Vodacom.

In addition to the above, there is a ray of hope if one considers that the Department of Communications (the DoC) has recently released its “Draft Broadband Policy of South Africa.’ This is despite obvious shortcomings which include for one the DoC’s clear intention not to consult us, the Average Joes, through public consultations or by giving us enough time to submit comments. Good news however is that the South African National Broadband Forum (SANBF) has launched a website where the Average Joes and other concerned parties can leave comments on the above-mentioned draft policy. The SANBF will then make a summary of the comments and send it to the DoC.

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) is happy that the Broadband Quality Study has confirmed that the quality of broadband in SA sucks. This leaves no space for denial but only room for hard work towards positive change.
