Broadband Connectivity: "No one gets left behind"

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 14 June 2010

SES Astra, a leading provider of satellite services in Europe, but relatively unknown to most South Africans, has launched its ASTRA2Connect Internet Services in Central and West Africa earlier this year and they're planning to expand their services into other parts of Africa, including South Africa.

“No one gets left behind”…

The above info relating to SES Astra may from face value mean very little to most South Africans, but the truth of the matter is that if successful, SES Astra will make sure that “no one gets left behind” when it comes to affordable broadband Internet connectivity for all.

Consumers living in the remote under-serviced areas of South Africa, where a lack of broadband Internet connectivity is a concern, can expect relieve soon in the form of a geostationary satellite named ASTA 4B, which will be deployed by SES Astra to provide broadband connectivity among other services. Without going into the technical details, a geostationary satellite makes in essence always-on high speed Internet access possible regardless of the geographical location of the Internet user.

In other words, Average Joes that are currently living in areas which are under-serviced in terms of broadband connectivity, definitely have something to look forward, given the fact that SES Astra plans to expand their ASTRA2Connect Internet Services into South Africa.
