Bright future for ADSL in South Africa

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 29 January 2008

Telkom, which has the largest ADSL Broadband subscriber base in South Africa, has left no doubt in our minds that they will reach their ADSL Broadband target of 700 000 subscribers by 2011. This surely sketches a bright future for ADSL Broadband in South Africa.

It’s really good to read that more and more people are switching to broadband, and ADSL Broadband for that matter, and that Telkom is upbeat about reaching its ADSL Broadband target in terms of ADSL Broadband penetration and the number of ADSL subscribers. Don’t get us wrong, we don’t have an awful lot of love for Telkom, but it’s good to see that people do see the benefits of switching to ADSL Broadband, even when Telkom is the ADSL Broadband Provider. The good news is that Telkom is not going to call the shots forever, especially now that Neotel is on track to enter the residential market (although Neotel will initially only offer wireless high-speed Internet offerings). It will also be a mistake to leave MTN and Vodacom out of the equation because both these mobile providers are planning to launch ADSL Broadband Packages of their own. ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) expects an avalanche of positive changes in terms of ADSL Broadband in South Africa over the next couple of years.
