What benefits will the launch of Phase 1
bring?
Enable ADSL Broadband Providers to perform remote
functions.
The launch of Phase 1 of BSAS will ‘…enable wholesale customers
(ISP/VANS) to troubleshoot faults on their customer lines and isolate them’ (Telkom to beef up ADSL ISP support, MyBroadband, 22 November
2007).
Phase 1 of BSAS will enable ADSL Broadband
Providers to perform certain remote functions such as
to:
perform real time testing of DSLAM ADSL port synchronisation with
customer ADSL modem (Telkom to beef up ADSL ISP support,
MyBroadband, 22 November 2007). This is according to Samuels.
In other words, although a bit technical for the Average Joe like
you and me, in essence it means that ADSL Broadband Providers will be able to provide better customer
service because they will have more control.
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) welcomes Telkom’s
initiative in this regard because it will certainly help to make life easier for ADSL Broadband
Providers and users alike.
