Bandwidth bandits

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 22 December 2006

No, we’re not referring to Telkom but to the ever-increasing number of computer hackers who’re stealing Internet bandwidth in South Africa.

According to one IT Manager, Justin Unwin, bandwidth is simply the total amount of traffic that can move on a computer (SA’s Internet bandwidth bandits a growing threat, 17 December 2006).

Why would anyone be interested in stealing bandwidth?

Well, lots of bandwidth is necessary to download mp3s, programs, movies, et cetera from the Internet. It is a fact that bandwidth is very expensive in South Africa due to Telkom’s tendency to take you for a ride. This might be one of the reasons why hackers want to help themselves instead of waiting on Telkom to bring down prices. Two wrongs will however not make a single thing right.

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) encourages hackers to use their talents in more constructive ways since they’re only helping to make life more difficult for the average consumer out there. Rather use your talents to help us kick Telkom's butt in legitimate ways so that everyone can win at the end of the day.
