Are Sentech's days numbered?
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South
Africa), 2 April 2010
The above is a question one can ask after it
has become known that Sentech CEO, Sebiletso Mokone-Matabane, has ‘jumped ship’ before the end of her contract in
September, which is still 5-6 months away.
Trouble at
Sentech…
Sentech, as far as we know, has not made known the reason(s) for
Mokone-Matabane’s decision to resign. Was it because of external pressure or was it because Mokone-Matabane had no
hope left for Sentech’s recovery?
It is no secret that a devastating report was tabled by a task team
recently which among other things made it clear that Sentech is unsustainable as a business. This coupled
withthe fact that Communications Minister, Siphiwe Nyanda, made it clear in
February that there’s going to be a shake up at Sentech in order to save it from utter collapse, must be among the
reasons why Mokone-Matabane has decided to resign. Whatever the true reason(s) may be, ADSL South Africa (Broadband
South Africa) truly hopes it’s because of pressure from Nyanda and his team to get Sentech on the straight and
narrow again.
