Alarm signal failure
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 31
August 2008
Alarm signal failure is probably the last thing one needs in an
emergency. This is precisely what can happen, if precaution is not taken, if one makes use of some of
Telkom’s products and
services.
ADSL users who make use
of Telkom CallCatcher, BlockCall or Prepaid phones must make sure
that an in-line filter is installed otherwise their phone lines can prevent alarm panic systems from working.
A woman from Diep River has discovered this after pressing her panic button during an attempted burglary. The
alarm’s siren went off, howling like a stray dog in heat, but she got no response from her security company.
Even more worrying, is that ADSL and other services can also interfere with emergency calls. This is
according to leading security companies in South Africa. It is therefore best to test your alarm system
regularly than to wait until the bastards are in your house.
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) really hopes ADSL users
take the above seriously and take the necessary precautions to prevent alarm signal failure, etc.
