ADSL South Africa - ADSL Splitter

What is an ADSL splitter? An ADSL splitter will make it possible for Boet and Sus to surf the net from two or more computers making use of the same ADSL line.

Its used to connect up more than one ADSL line into the same socket. In other words, an ADSL splitter makes it possible to connect more than one computer to an ADSL line. An ADSL splitter is different from a POTS splitter (phone) because it contains a micro-filter. This micro-filter is needed to stop the ADSL signal interfering with the voice part of your phone line and also to ensure that the ADSL line is terminated correctly. If the fitter used for ADSL purposes was not fitted with this micro-filter it would cause errors on your ADSL connection making it useless.

ADSL splitters come in different shapes and sizes although in most cases you can identify them easily by the letters "ADSL" printed somewhere on it.
