How will Telkom Closer Plan 4 and Closer Plan 5 subscribers benefit?

Telkom Closer Plan subscribers (Plan 4 and 5) will enjoy the following savings:

• Telkom Closer Plan 4 – ‘Telkom’s Closer Plan 4, which currently costs R499-00 per month, will be reduced to R429-00 per month on the 1st of August. This plan includes DSL 384 access with the standard closer benefits’ (Telkom to reduce price of Closer ADSL packages, MyBroadband, 18 June 2007).In other words, Telkom Closer Plan 4 subscribers will enjoy a monthly saving of 14% (from the 1st of August).

• Telkom Closer Plan 5 – ‘Telkom’s Closer Plan 5, which includes DSL 4 Mbps access in addition to all the Closer 3 benefits, will be reduced from R699-00 to R651-00’ (Telkom to reduce price of Closer ADSL packages, MyBroadband, 18 June 2007).In other words, Telkom Closer Plan 5 subscribers will enjoy a monthly saving of 7% (from the 1st of August).

Any price increases?

Yes.

‘Analogue line rental prices will however increase from R 99-92 to R 111.90, which means that there will be an effective saving of around 15% on the combined ADSL Access and Line Rental charges’ (Telkom to reduce price of Closer ADSL packages, MyBroadband, 18 June 2007).

In other words, there will be a 12% increase in analogue line rental prices (from the 1st of August).

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) welcomes the planned ADSL savings coming from Telkom’s side. It’s high time Telkom starts to open up the floodgates.
