Its similar to an analogue modem in terms of functionality for the end-user. The underlying technology used is different however.

You can get an ADSL modem from most suppliers for around R300 and more. Like any product out there ADSL modems differ in terms of price, quality and features. It's best to do your homework and get the one most suitable for your specific needs.

Five steps you need to follow in order to get the best deal:

  • Visit the sites of the various ADSL Modem Suppliers.
  • Contact a few and ask them which ADSL modem would be most suitable for your specific needs.
  • Formulize an answer from all the replies received within 3 days (if you emailed them).
  • Now that you know which one you need it's time to visit the sites again and make price comparisons. To make things easier you can skip the ones that haven't replied within 3 days.
  • The final move will be to buy the modem meeting your criteria in terms of price, quality and features.
