How has this affected the uptake of ADSL Broadband in South
Africa?
It will come as a surprise to some, but the substantial drop in
fixed-line subscriber lines have not impacted negatively on the uptake of ADSL Broadband in South Africa. This is especially true if one considers that the number of digital
subscriber lines in service had increased to 647 462 which equates to 18.1% year-on-year growth. This clearly
shows that while there is a move from fixed-line to mobile services, and while many people suffers because of
the consequences of the recession, ADSL Broadband connections (which are fixed-line connections) are pretty
much still favoured when it comes to connecting to the Internet.
In other words, the fact that a substantial number of fixed-line
subscriber lines have gone out of service in the past year has not affected the uptake of ADSL Broadband in
South Africa negatively, at least not when one considers the 18.1% year-on-year growth of digital subscriber
lines.
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) takes note of the
substantial drop in the number of fixed-line subscriber lines, but the fact that it has not really affected the
uptake of ADSL Broadband in South Africa is encouraging to say the least.
