ADSL Broadband: Telkom increases ADSL caps free of charge

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 6 February 2012

TelkomInternet subscribers have more to smile about after Telkom has increased ADSL caps free of charge at the beginning of February this year.

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) would like to see the doing away of the compulsory standard analogue line (telephone line/voice component) and a substantial price drop when it comes to the cost of the ADSL access portion (ADSL line rental) of the ADSL service offered by Telkom, but an increase in the ADSL caps at no additional cost are surely welcomed in the meantime. This is despite the fact that 1GB TelkomInternet AllAccess subscribers are not benefitting from the free extra international data (bandwidth). The reason being is because for a mere R20 a month extra, they can upgrade to 5GB. Anyhow, 4GB TelkomInternet AllAccess subscribers have gained 1GB of data (bandwidth), 8GB TelkomInternet AllAccess subscribers have gained 2GB and 16GB TelkomInternet AllAccess subscribes have gained 4GB. This is despite the fact that the free extra bandwidth (data) does not apply to local data (bandwidth) allocations. We’re sure that most Average Joes don’t have a problem with a lack of local bandwidth (data), meaning that we on average tend to surf international websites more than local websites. We might of course have the cat completely by its tail.

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) welcomes Telkom’s move to increase ADSL caps at no additional charge to some TelkomInternet AllAccess subscribers, but would like to see a situation where the voice component is optional and where there is a substantial drop in the cost of the ADSL line rental.
