ADSL Broadband: Savings great, but wait a minute!

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 21 May 2010

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) has welcomed the spate of ADSL price cuts we’ve seen in recent days and months. We have however realised that some ADSL Broadband Providers have chosen to continue with their ‘dirty tactics’ instead of truly coming to the broadband price cut party.

Hook, line and sinker…

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), like most of our fellow Average Joes, have welcomed recent ADSL price cuts with great joy, but the fact of the matter is that once one digs a little bit deeper, one cannot help to think that most of us have fallen ‘hook, line and sinker’ for the ‘dirty tactics’ deployed by some (if not most) ADSL Broadband Providers.

Many of us glow with happiness when we hear that the cost of ADSL Broadband has dropped to levels as low as R10 per GB and in some instances  even lower. We glow with happiness, but only because many of us fail to ask ourselves the following question: How much do I need to spend before I can enjoy ADSL Broadband at x amount per GB? The answer to this question provides one with a realistic idea of what one can really expect to pay per GB.

For example: If we tell you that you can buy Product A for as low as R10 per unit, which is much lower than the normal retail price of more or less R30 per unit, then it should definitely grab your attention. However, when you realise that you have to spend R200 before the price drops to R10 per unit, then chances are good that you’re not going to smile about it. This is more or less what has been happening in the ADSL Broadband market since all the ADSL price cuts started.
