ADSL Broadband remains at the top
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 21 December
2009
The recent statistics released by the
Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) pertaining to broadband usage in OECD countries
in June this year, gives a clear indication that ADSL Broadband remains the most popular broadband technology or means to connect to the Internet in
the OECD.
Most popular broadband
technology…
ADSL Broadband or DSL is according to the OECD
statistics used by 60% of all the broadband subscribers in the OECD to connect to the
Internet.
The above is great news, especially if
one considers the benefits that ADSL Broadband offers.
Less popular in South
Africa…
ADSL Broadband, which presents fixed-line or
wired Internet connections, has however declined in popularity in South Africa to 29% while
Wireless Broadband connections have shot up to 71% of all
broadband connections in South Africa. This is mainly due to the high cost of ADSL Broadband in South
Africa as well as other issues such as cable theft, poor customer service, etc.
