ADSL Broadband: 21% growth in past year

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 7 June 2010

ADSL Broadband subscriptions have increased with no less than 21% in the past year. This is according to a recent study done by World Wide Worx and Cisco.

Broadband remains favourite means of accessing the Internet…

The same study has revealed that the number of South Africans accessing the Internet via broadband connections has increased with an astonishing 50% in the past year, mainly due to the growing need for round-the-clock Internet connectivity.

48% of website visitors use ADSL Broadband…

An estimated 48% of website visitors use ADSL Broadband to access the Internet in South Africa (excluding the results of mobile websites). This is despite the fact that Mobile Broadband connections have overtaken ADSL Broadband in terms of subscriber numbers a long time ago.

Given the above, while the number of ADSL Broadband subscriptions has increased with no less than 21% in the past year, it must be noted that Wireless Broadband subscriptions have grown with a massive 88% in the past year, growth which has mostly been fueled by corporates through the deployment of 3G cards. This may give one the false impression that most people who surf the Internet in South Africa are doing so via Mobile Broadband connections, but it’s clearly not the case.

In other words, despite the fact that Mobile Broadband connections have overtaken ADSL Broadband in terms of subscriber numbers a long time ago, it seems that most people still prefer to surf the Internet via ADSL Broadband connections.
