ADSL Broadband: ADSL prices in SA – Are they competitive?

It is the management of Telkom's belief that their pricing structure compares favorably with that of the international market. Many local businesses and private users were surprised to here this news. Many citizens in this country believe that Telkom are in fact pricier than overseas service providers.

The Senior Managing Executive of Telkom, Dr. Brian Armstrong, showed 2009 prices and they indicated that Telkom was much cheaper than many countries on certain products. This information was quite surprising to the people who have seen it. It should be noted however that these prices applied to Voice combos for businesses, 64Kbps Diginet lines and ATM services. This does not really help the man in the street however.

Many people feel that it would have been better to study the prices of more up market services such as high end ADSL connections and multi-Mbps fibre leased lines, both of which are meant for the small and medium enterprise market. That said, it is still good to have the above-mentioned information so that comparisons can start to be made accurately when comparing to overseas prices.
