What about alternatives where
international bandwidth is of a concern besides
SAT3?
Other submarine cable systems
such as EASSy and SEACOM might provide a way out but not over
the short and medium term.
‘Neotel is also involved in
EASSy, but this is not the only SAT3 alternative in the
pipeline and they are also involved with SEACOM. SEACOM is a
new proposed cable which will follow the same route as the
EASSy cable down the eastern seaboard but it will either
connect internationally directly into Italy or India via VSNL’
(Neotel plans for bandwidth needs, MyADSL, 16 April
2007).
In other words, Neotel is
involved with at least two submarine cable projects that may
serve as alternatives to SAT3 over the long term.
What will be the best
short term solution for Neotel?
Non-exclusive access on
SAT3.
‘Non-exclusive access on SAT3
will definitely be the best short term solution for more
affordable international bandwidth access for them, but it is
clear that they are looking beyond SAT3 for their future needs’
(Neotel plans for bandwidth needs, MyADSL, 16 April
2007).
ADSL South Africa (Broadband
South Africa) wishes Neotel the best of luck in their endeavour
to secure adequate bandwidth capacity.
